Dining

Good food is very easy to find in Melaka. Besides, the variety is astounding! There is so much to savour that many people come specially for its diverse and delicious cuisine. From upmarket restaurants to roadside stalls, Malacca gives you the gourmet true satisfaction. Choose between local, ethnic or western food.

Mobile Evening Market Mobile evening market or Pasar Malam is about eating out and buying essentials from road-side stalls and mobile hawkers and its an established way of life with Malaysians. For one thing, it is cheaper this way because the vendors with minimal expenses, can afford to sell cheaper.

Local Portuguese or Eurasian Food The blend of different cultures is the cause of this cuisine. The very famous chicken curry debel, sometimes called "curry devil", is a must. Baked fish marinated with spices, vegetable soup with generous servings of cinnamon, mace and pepper, and crabs in tomato and chilli gravy are some of the other Portuguese favourites.

Chinese Szechuan, Cantonese, Hainanese and Shanghai foods can be dined on. Fried chicken or frog legs with dried chillies and steamed fish with spicy Szechuan sauce are some of the Szechuan dishes. "Dragon Chicken" - deep fried de-boned chicken and fried crispy vegetables in garlic and oyster sauce is an example of a Cantonese dish. Popular Hainanese dishes are mutton soup and beef steamboat. Braised pig trotters with brown sauce eaten with steamed buns is one well-known Shanghainese dish you could have.
